Isolate Device causing problem If there are more than one display drivers in Device Manager, Disable all of them except one. I disconnected and reconnected the display ports, but no luck. can u post a screenshot pls? I actually thought i looked cooler than the normal boot. The first time the SMC reset worked perfectly. That black screen scared me as I just got my MacBook 2 months ago! Here lies the Dell issue, it is probably still using the onboard card as the "primary" monitor card. Once you find it, keep it disabled and contact the manufacturer of that device for updates. Press command-option-p-r when your macbook boots. Nearly scalded my hands holding it. This worked for me once when I faced this issue. The only result that worked for me after searching all thru YouTube and Google for help!
Random BSODs, memory dumps pointed at different system files causing the problem, and (most telling) the laptop would sometimes not start after shutting down. I bookmarked the article in case we need it again. I'm not sure why this external drive cause the problem, window vista should automatically install the proper driver for that. I'm soooo frustrated!
Good Hunting! Try selecting options to move the display to other attached displays such as TV or a second monitor.
