in any case, based on one of the above comments - I thought perhaps the external keyboard issue was linked to the mac keyboard issue. I even turned off the computer, then turned it back on and the slide still works andchanges the brightness. This is faster than going through the Control Panel. It works for me but need to do it all the time I want to change the brightness.
